CLAUDIUS MAXIMUS CROSSES THE TAMAR

Claudius Maximus has established a new marching camp in the South West peninsula in order to remind Cornish schools of the Romans firm grip on the inhabitants at the western extremes of the Roman Empire. 

As part of this new campaign Claudius Maximus is offering the following:

• a special rate for cluster bookings
• a discount for every school who recruits another school to book a workshop 

This interactive, exciting and dramatic workshop will cover discipline, kit and equipment, the construction of a testudo (providing all soldiers have shields) and culminates in the re-enactment of a battle.

Autumn Term 2011

Demand for Roman workshops continues as new schools sign up for workshops and many schools continue to request an annual visit.

This term Claudius Maximus is working in Exeter and Plymouth. On his seventh annual visit to Woodford Junior School (now part of Woodford Primary School) Claudius Maximus found a very well prepared group of 60 trainee soldiers supporting shields and javelins (hand made during the holidays in the main).

It is a long standing belief in Woodford Junior that their is no better way to bring history to life, especially for the Roman period when the children are in awe of a soldier in full armour standing before them as they enter the hall. This spectacle sets the scene for a very exciting day of disciplined interactive learning and whilst some may face the day with great trepidation, by the end they are all so inspired and excited and leave full of facts and colourful memories.

Roman Exeter visits Gotherington Area Local History Society 22nd/23rd September 2007

Claudius Maximus from Roman Exeter was guest of honour at the 25 year jubilee of Gotherington Area Local History Society on 22nd and 23rd September. Many Roman artefacts were on display and people enjoyed the opportunity of engaging with a re-enactor legionary soldier from the 1st Century AD
